I've decided to start a new section to this blog, it is called "Life Mistakes".
Think "Darwin Awards". It will be along those lines.
Pointing out a mistake that the Police have made isn't a bad thing... as long as that's where it ends.
We have all been young, dum and full of cumbersome thoughts and those over the age of 35 can't help but unconsciously sigh when a "kiddy-wink" does something that proves how immature they are.
In fairness: There a quite a few "Grown-ups" that struggle with their maturity too, but this isn't about them, well... today anyway.
Case in point: The Lower Hutt man (PWT) that found a Police camera with about 500 crime scene photographs on it, decided to use it as a bargaining chip in an upcoming court-case. Then as a 'Public Service' showed 3News the photos (the beautiful irony of them being shown on a PS3 didn't escape me either).
His mates will buy him a DB tonight... maybe even a tinny...
I wonder if he'll be curious why there seem to be "pigs" everywhere lately.
I've been mulling over this issue for a few days and I've decided I will comment on it.
Michael Laws... Mayor, EX-MP, journalist, author, TV personality, radio talkback host, *cough*blogger*cough*, husband to a hot wife... a weird mix of Che Guevara, Karl Marx and Mother Teresa...
Last week (Thursday & then Friday) on his radio show Michael spat the dummy at bloggers, likening blogging to online masturbation (as an aside: if that analogy holds true, most males and females prefer blogging to reading MSM... so thanks Michael)
But I'm not belittling Michael, I generally like him, he's politically incorrect, outspoken, but most importantly:
He knows where his bread is buttered!
His book, "Demon profession" was a page turner! With his charisma and diction, he draws the reader into a frank exposé of the New Zealand political beast.
After a conflict of interest about using his wife's marketing company while he was a sitting MP, Laws did the noble thing and fell on his sword (a sword held be a gleeful Jim Bolger), resigning from Parliament.
Then begins a long association with Winston Peters (whom Laws had previously worked for & was probably a key figure in the rise of both Peters and New Zealand First - a role I'm not entirely confident has been totally relinquished).
Finding local-body politics more to his liking than its Parliamentary parents, Law stood for and was elected as the Mayor of Wanganui. In typical Law's fashion, he ruffled then singed the feathers of several of the old-guard of Wanganui. Subsequently the "Laws watch" blog was set up, specifically to criticise and belittle Laws (which I think prompted his tirade).
Laws has been quite open about his daughter's (Lucy) illness and vociferously opposes anyone who abuses children. Often lending his profile & outlets to resolve issues where children are being abused. I am told that people who have children later in life tend to cherish them more... I can't say for definite whether that's the case here, but it certainly seems as though laws is a doting father
The latest issue is putting an "H" in Wanganui, a few vocal & radical Maori want the name spelt wHanganui and not the current Wanganui. A rock thrown at his daughter's window was attributed to this debate, if so, the throwers couldn't have chosen a worse target to try to intimidate Laws.
When I heard Law's tirade against bloggers on his talkback show, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but I thought, "Consider the source": Laws writes a newspaper article & hosts a sports show on Sky TV as well as hosting a nationally syndicated radio talkback show... it's not such a long bow to understand that his "tolerance" for non-journalists maybe low, but add to that some whingers with a website, bolshie Maoris & the politically correct brigade and you have a sure-fire recipe for an anti-blogging time-bomb.
When I looked on his BlogWebsite, I found a lot of personal/professional information about Laws, but to sum up MY view of Law's little tanty I say: I accept that you're being attacked by some stupid blue-blood wannabes and took a swing back BUT be a bit more surgical Michael, don't carpet bomb the whole blogosphere, the ones who probably make up a substantial proportion of your audience!
